Japan Machinery Orders (Seasonally Adjusted)
The Machinery Orders Survey, compiled by the Cabinet Office, records orders received by major machinery manufacturers. This page shows seasonally adjusted orders from the private sector excluding volatile orders for ships and from electric power companies (core machinery orders), split into manufacturing and non-manufacturing.
📖 How to read this indicator
Core machinery orders are a leading indicator of business investment in equipment, which usually follows orders by about six months. Monthly figures swing widely because a few large orders can move the total, so it is better to look at the trend over several months.
