Japan Retail Sales Growth
This page shows the year-over-year change in nominal sales from the Current Survey of Commerce: total retail trade and sales at department stores, supermarkets and convenience stores (all stores). The rates are calculated on this site from the published sales values.
📖 How to read this indicator
Retail sales are a timely gauge of consumer spending on goods. The figures are nominal, so part of the growth reflects higher prices; compare them with the CPI to judge whether sales volumes are actually increasing. Because the figures cover all stores, changes in the number of stores also affect the growth rates of each type of store.
