Japan Producer Prices (Corporate Goods Price Index)
The Corporate Goods Price Index (CGPI), compiled by the Bank of Japan, measures the prices of goods traded between companies. It is Japan's equivalent of a producer price index (PPI). This page shows the year-over-year change in the domestic, export and import price indexes (export and import prices on a yen basis).
📖 How to read this indicator
Producer prices tend to move ahead of consumer prices, because higher costs for materials and energy are passed on to retail prices with a lag. Import prices on a yen basis reflect both global commodity prices and the yen exchange rate, so a weaker yen pushes them up even when prices in foreign currencies are stable.
