USD/JPY Exchange Rate (Yen per US Dollar)

This page shows the yen–US dollar spot rate in the Tokyo interbank market at 5 p.m. at the end of each month. The rate is the number of yen needed to buy one US dollar, so a higher number means a weaker yen.

📖 How to read this indicator

A weaker yen raises the cost of imported energy and food, which pushes up consumer prices, while it increases the yen value of exporters' overseas earnings. The exchange rate is strongly influenced by the gap between interest rates in Japan and the United States, so it is useful to read it together with Japan's interest rates.
